WELCOME TO
LIVING TREE YOGA
We offer yoga classes, special events, and private yoga instruction in our urban, eco-conscious studio.
At Living Tree, growth is at the front of everything we do. Growth toward something true and thoughtful, bright and boldly compassionate. Our classes are small and focused, allowing you to cultivate a deep and purposeful practice. Our events are community-minded, offering opportunities to connect over music and chai, or to share a story that resonates with friends and neighbors. And since giving is a massive part of growth, we host plenty of events at which the proceeds are donated to local and global charitable organizations.
So step in, and grow with us. We hope you’ll discover something luminous and strong with every breath.
Wishing you peace in body, mind, and spirit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What do I need for class?
We provide yoga mats free of charge, towels and spray to wipe them down, and water for after class. Remember the following:
• Your class card, or $12 drop-in fee.
• A yoga mat, if you prefer to use your own. Please avoid using a camping mat, blanket, or towel, as these can slide and potentially cause injury.
• A rested stomach. It's best not to eat a few hours prior to class, as a full belly can interrupt movement. If you need to have something, a banana or other easily-digestible fruit is ideal.
• A turned off cell phone—please silence all electronic devices before class.
What should I wear?
• Comfortable clothing. Garb specifically for yoga isn't necessary, but it's important that your clothes allow you to move and stretch. A big t-shirt and loose shorts may seem great, but you'll be tucking them in and worrying about gaps during your first downward dog. Long, fitted pants and tops that give slightly are ideal.
• Bare feet. Your feet are the foundation of your asanas (postures), and need to flex and contract just like the rest of the body. Shoes impede movement, and socks will cause you to slip and slide.
• Tie back loose hair, and avoid dangling jewelry.
I can’t touch my toes. Is that a problem?
While flexibility is helpful in yoga, it’s not required. The focus of yoga is breath, rather than actual posture. While it’s tempting to push yourself into a great-looking asana, you risk extending beyond your body’s capability. Find the place where you feel challenged, stay in it, and be grateful for wherever that place is. And be reassured that people who are hyper-flexible need to work much harder to reach their point of challenge.
I have an injury. What should I do?
First consult with your doctor to see if Yoga is right for you. If you have any kind of injury, please arrive a few minutes early, and let your instructor know prior to class. She’ll give you modifications to common postures that will allow you to practice more safely. If you have any other physical issues or illnesses, don’t hesitate to ask about specific postures to practice or avoid.
What is the difference between Yesu Yoga and Vinyasa-style classes?
Yesu (pronounced “Yeshu”) Yoga is a practice for followers of Jesus to integrate the act of prayer into the body, and deepen their connection with the Divine. Like a Vinyasa-style class, the poses flow into eachother. The practice ends with a period of meditation and reflection.
Vinyasa-style classes are “flow” style, with one asana flowing into another. These classes are taught in the classical yoga tradition of bringing movement to the body and stillness to the mind (chittah vritti nirodaha, or silencing mind-chatter).
Both classes are multi-level, and offer variations for beginners through intermediate/advanced students.
Why take private classes?
Private instruction allows you to refine and intensify your practice in a very focused way. You’ll do asanas tailored specifically to where you are physically and spiritually, and if you want to concentrate on a particular area or challenge, there’s plenty of time to do so.
